Obituary for Kenneth Eugene Haley

Graveside services for Ken Haley, 90, of Athens, Texas will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 10, 2019 at the DFW National Cemetery in Dallas.

Ken passed away peacefully on January 3, 2019 in Athens.

Kenneth Eugene Haley was born on April 3, 1928 in Altus, Oklahoma. Ken graduated from Altus High School in 1946 and then went on to serve as a Communications Tech in the United States Army from May 1946 to October 1947. While serving his country, Ken was awarded the World War II Victory Medal as well as the Army of Occupation Medal Japan. He then went on to have a long and successful career in the car sales industry until his retirement. Once in retirement, he and his wife Betty (dec: 2013) enjoyed RV camping trips and taking in the sites and national park treasures all over the country. Ken was an avid Texas Rangers fan. He also prided himself on offering his services to the Henderson County Senior Citizens Center by ensuring that the building opened for the day with a fresh brewed pot of coffee and tables were ready for regular dominos games. He spent countless hours playing dominos with his many friends and his skills were hard to match. Ken’s sense of humor made him a favorite among his friends, colleagues, and neighbors and his infectious smile will be missed by all who knew him.

Mr. Haley was preceded in death by his wife, parents and sisters.

Ken is survived by his children, Donna Haley-Strain (Jimmie) of Duncanville, TX, Cynthia Haley-Seikel (Chris) of Yukon, OK, Paul Haley (Cathy) of Dallas, TX, and Patricia Burke (Wendy) of Milton, DE, brother Alton Harvey (Gaye), and a host of cousins, nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his grandchildren Christie, Stephen, Elizabeth, Jeremy and Paul as well as five great-grandchildren Ashley, Hailey, Parker, Brandon and Olivia.
