Obituary for William Archie Bragdon

Funeral services for Bill Bragdon, 85, of Brownsboro will be held at Leagueville Baptist Church on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at 2:00pm officiated by Bro Tom Bragdon and Bro. Mike Bragdon. Interment will follow at the Leagueville Cemetery.

Mr. Bragdon went to be with his Lord and Savior on February 23, 2019 in Tyler, Texas.

William Archie (Bill) Bragdon was born in Crittenden County, KY to Freeman Isaac Bragdon and Mary Etta Martin Bragdon. He attended Crittenden County High School and graduated in 1952.

He married his high school sweetheart, Carol Ruth Perryman on February 23, 1953. He left Kentucky to work briefly at Whirlpool in Evansville, Indiana, then moved to Gary, Indiana where he worked for US Steel for nearly 40 years. Upon retirement, they moved back to Marion, KY to be close to family.

In 1998, they made the decision to move to Henderson County, Texas where they resided ever since. He worked a few years for Brownsboro Independent School District in the bus barn, where he made many friends.

His life revolved around his family and his church. He led music, taught Sunday School, and was very involved in outreach. After moving to Texas and becoming a member of Leagueville Baptist Church, he was ordained as a deacon.

One of the greatest joys of his life was that both of his sons were called into the ministry. Both sons served in Japan as missionaries for several years before becoming pastors here in Texas. His faith in the Lord was evident to all who knew him. He was a faithful Church member right to the end. He loved his pastor and his Church family dearly.

Bill was a soft-spoken, gentle, caring, and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Even throughout the long-term and very difficult illness that Carol went through, he never complained and never left her side. When his own journey with Mesothelioma began last summer, he faced it with tremendous dignity and unwavering faith.

He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, granddaughter, Jessica, and his wife, Carol of 60 years.

He is survived by two sons, William Thomas Bragdon and wife, Lynnetta of Leagueville; Michael Keith Bragdon and wife Resa, of Gatesville. 10 grandchildren, Justin and wife Beth of Brownsboro, Jason and wife Keri of Columbus, OH, Luke and Alison of Forney, Nathan of Spring, Autumn Myers and husband Ryan of Duluth, MN, Joshua and wife Virginia of Longview, Jill Honeycutt and husband Wade of College Station, Chloe Barber and husband Brent of Shreveport, LA, Jared of Longview, and Micah and wife Megan of Lancaster, KY.

His is also leaving a legacy of 7 great grandchildren, Meryl, Lyndon, and Naomi of Columbus, Gabriel and Leah of Forney, Evelyn of Shreveport, and Oliver of Longview.

A visitation will be held prior to the services on Tuesday from 1-2:00 pm at Leagueville Baptist Church.

All arrangements are being handled by Hannigan-Smith Funeral Home in Athens, TX.
