Obituary for Nell Baker (Whittington)
Funeral Services for Nell Baker of Athens are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 7, 2019 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home in Athens with Bro. Mike Dean officiating. Interment will follow at Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Ms. Baker passed away March 3, 2019 in Shreveport, Louisiana.
Ynell Whittington Baker was born January 11, 1934 in Athens, Texas the daughter of Paul Whittington and Eva Porter Whittington. She was a long-time member of the Fellowship Baptist Church of Athens, loved spending time with her church family in Sunday School Class and many other church activities. She was an active member of the Athens Community and spent over 45 years teaching water-aerobics at the Cain Center/YMCA. Nell loved gardening and was known to have raised the most beautiful daffodils in the area. Mema was a loving mother, grandmother and will be missed by all that knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Frank Baker; two brothers, Horace Whittington, Morris Whittington and two sons, Michael Cherry, Pete Rula Jr.
Nell is survived by her children, Linda Rula-Perez and husband Jerry of Shreveport, Louisiana, Judy Jock and husband Sam of West Texas; one sister Sue Wilson of Athens; three grandchildren, Amy Fleet and husband Aaron, Tony Trammell, Senior Airman Austin Brumley and four great grandchildren, Ava Fleet, Olivia Fleet, Madeline Trammell, Hamilton Trammell.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2019 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.
