Obituary for Randy Lynn Shelton

Athens - Funeral Services for Randy Shelton, 55, of Athens are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at the Lake Athens Baptist Church with Bro. Bryan Adair and Bro. Mike Curry officiating. A private family burial will take place at a later date.

Randy Shelton passed away on November 17, 2018 in Athens.

Randy Lynn Shelton was born December 31, 1962 in Athens, Texas the son of Norman Rawldon Shelton and Stella Lucille Hardy Shelton. He was a member of Lake Athens Baptist Church and enjoyed being involved in the Monday Morning Men’s Prayer Breakfast where he cooked his famous bacon. Randy was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting, fishing, farming, knife making and his long-time service with the Baxter Volunteer Fire Department. He loved cooking, spending time with his family especially his boys and will be missed by all those who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Rodney Shelton and one niece, Stephanie Loper.

Randy is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Janine Shelton of Athens; father and mother-in-law, Joe and Jeannette Loper of Athens; adoptive parents, Bill and Connie Pennington of Athens; two sons, Jerry Shelton and wife Rachael of Athens, Mark Shelton and wife Tracey of Athens; one adopted daughter Shannon Wheeler and husband Robert of Missouri; one sister, Judy Flowers and husband Lee of Zavala; brothers and sisters in law, Dean and Debra Loper of Tyler, Glen Loper of Athens, Tracy and Becky Loper of Tulsa, Charlotte Shelton of Fayetteville, GA; six grandchildren, Star, Dallas, Devin, Branson, Jayden and Kinsley Shelton and four step grandchildren, Zachary and JJ Hughes, Sarah and Tabitha Anderson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Hospice Plus of Athens, Russell and Taryn, Dr. Jon Edwards, Dr. Dawn Dansby and staff and the Men’s Prayer Group at Lake Athens Baptist Church.

Visitation will be held Monday, November 19, 2018 at the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home from 6:00-8:00 p.m.

Serving as pallbearers: James Carhart, Billy Holloway, Timmy Wheeler, John Nichols, Jerry Tumlinson, Austin Holloway, Quintin Holloway, Mark Shelton and Jerry Shelton
