Obituary for William Lewis Hoeser Jr.

Services for William Lewis Hoeser, Jr., are scheduled for Friday, March 29, 2019 at 2:00 PM at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home with Pastor Chuck Hinton and Pastor Teresa Anthony officiating. Visitation will be held Friday, March 29, 2019 from 1-2 PM prior to the service at Hannigan Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Davis Cemetery under direction of Hannigan Smith Funeral Home.

William Lewis Hoeser, Jr., age 89 years and 9 months, entered into eternal rest with His Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, March 23, 2019. He resided at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Rex and Denise Pope, of LaRue, Texas.

Mr. Hoeser, who was born in Madisonville, Texas, was one of five boys and seven girls born to William Lewis Hoeser, Sr. and Verne Beatrice Traynham Hoeser.

He joined the United States Air Force May 13, 1946, where he valiantly served the United States of America until his retirement August 31, 1969. He was stationed in various states in the U.S., Korea, Japan, Phillippines, England and Greece during his service. Mr. Hoeser attended Texas A&M University and achieved multiple continuing educational Awards and Certificates of Achievement throughout his military career. Throughout his military career, he worked his way through the ranks in the field of aircraft maintenance. Achieving the rank of SMSGT (Senior Master Sergeant), he was a disciplined Crew Chief and leader exceeding expectations and achieving multiple commendations for excellence in leadership. He also served in the Honor Guard.

Upon retirement, Mr. Hoeser served as Production Superintendent for 13 years at Imperial American of Owentown. Upon retirement, he served as Facilities Manager of a privately owned and operated exotic animal refuge and ranch near his home.

Mr. Hoeser was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years and 11 months, Susie (Sue) Ann Holmes Hoeser.

He is survived by five daughters, Sharon White of LaRue, Deborah and husband Thomas Hoeser of LaRue, Denise and husband Rex Pope of LaRue, Lisa and husband Steve Crane of Plano and Danna Hoeser of Plano. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Lisa Rene White, Carmen Swaim and husband Brandon, Kristin Hawkinson and husband Chris, Bryan McLemore and wife Marlo, Scott McLemore and wife Autumn, Jessica Ottaberry and husband Walt, Ryan Pope and Caleb Gonzales; eleven great grandchildren, Alexis and Zoe Swaim, Hayden and Abby Hawkinson, Colby Hardee, Keli and Zak Hoffman and Vance, Olivia, Sophia and Willow McLemore; his elder sister, Laura Jelks of New Braunfels; his younger sister, Stella Buckannan of Universal City; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Honorary pallbearers will be Ryan Pope, Bryan McLemore, Scott McLemore, Chris Hawkinson, Brandon Swalm, Morgan McCain, Matthew Pierce and Troy Buckannan.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Athens Church of God, 599 Robbins Road, Athens, Texas 75751.

The family would like to acknowledge the hard work and dedication given by Steve Crane in his preparation and production of a remembrance tribute honoring Mr. Hoeser’s life.

Funeral services were entrusted to the Hannigan Smith Funeral Home family.
